Salut,
Nous sommes Eric et Caroline Pantekoek Holthausen de Rotterdam et de Alphen aan den Rijn, Pays-Bas. Nous avons acquis de l'expérience dans l'hospitalité pendant les années quatre-vingt dix, nous avons fait tous deux une vraie carrière dans la vie industrielle. Eric faisait une carrière comme consultant informatique, et Caroline a finalement été fonctionnaire au ministère de la Justice.

Toutefois, nous avons compris qu´une carrière dans la vie industrielle néerlandais jusqu´a notre 65 ou 67 ans n´était pas une bonne perspective. Dans les années quatre-vingt dix Eric avait déjà voyagé une année avec le sac à dos au travers de l'Asie et l'Australie. Deux ans plus tard, quand il a rencontré Caroline, il n'a pas fallu longtemps pour lui inoculer le ‘virus du Voyage´. Alors en 2003 nous avons acheté une vieille Toyota Landcruiser et avons voyagé des Pays-Bas à l'Inde et retour.
Après deux ans, nous sommes revenus en Hollande pour y travailler.

Nous avions assez fait de longs voyages, mais c'était notre vieux rêve de vivre dans les montagnes. Puisque nous avions beaucoup d'expérience comme touristes, nous voulions l’utiliser pour s'occuper de nos propres clients en retrouvant notre ancien métier dans la restauration!

En outre, comme touristes nous avions bien aimé les petits hôtels avec une ambiance, conviviale et chaleureuse et une attention personnelle. Ajoutez l’exigence, que l'hôtel devait se situer dans les montagnes et dans une région touristique et le défi pour trouver un endroit approprié est clair...
Lorsque nous avons trouvé l'Auberge de la Providence à Saint Donat c’était très clair que ce lieu réunissait toutes nos exigences!

Alors, maintenant c’est à nous de donner à nos clients le meilleur accueil possible et des vacances, un hébergement, des repas ou une bière inoubliables!

We are Eric and Caroline, a couple from the Netherlands, in our late thirties and early forties. We have always loved to travel and have done so extensively in South-East Asia and Australia (Eric) and, later, driving overland from our hometown of Rotterdam to the south of India and back (Eric and Caroline).

Originally we were trained to become an ICT consultant and a civil servant. Apart from going off on a travel sabbatical once in a while, we were seriously trying to settle in in our respective careers, until a yearlong expat life in Dubai made us realize that we probably would be happier and more productive human beings if living in the country side and working with our hands.

Driving around France in 2009, we stumbled upon a small country side inn that happened to be for sale. It was opposite an old church in the middle of a cute, sleepy Auvergnat village that definitely had more cows than human inhabitants.

Looming over it were the snowcapped peaks of the Puy-de-Sancy. We soon learned that this long dead volcano offered serious skiing in winter and excellent hiking all year round. Long before we started making any serious calculations of its affordability and viability, we had already decided that this was what we wanted. Luckily for us, it turned out all right.

We have always had a clear view on how our ideal inn, the kind where we would like to spend a holiday ourselves, should be. Warm, friendly, good value for money, clean and unpretentious. A cold beer after a long hike, a game of darts, a tasty homecooked meal after a day of skiing, sitting in front of a roaring fire with the hotel dog curled up beside you, discovering that they serve every kind of whiskey you can think of. We fully realize that this is not everyone’s ideal vacation, but this is what we want to offer at the Auberge de la Providence.

We run the auberge ourselves. The cooking, the cleaning, the maintenance, the serving, the paperwork, is all done by two people. We take pride in our work, keep the costs low and create an informal atmosphere. We strive to give every guest the individual attention required.
